Pierce College was founded in 1947 and is a comprehensive college having more than 100 disciplines that are being taught to greater than 18,000 students during each semester. Pierce college is of course fully accredited by the nationally recognized accrediting agency: The Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Pierce College is a two-year public institution that provides many opportunities for occupational training, transfer education as well as life-long learning. Pierce College is one of nine campuses located in the Los Angeles Community College District.
Pierce College is really setting the pace in community college education. Its creation of the 15-week semester plan has generated higher enrollment figures, better retention and superior learning. With its two five-week summer sessions and a single five-week winter session, students of Pierce College get to enjoy the opportunity to move more rapidly through the curriculum with superior academic success.
Many students of Pierce College transfer to one of the University of California system, the California State University system, or private universities in order to earn their bachelors degrees.
Pierce College has one of the best transfer performance records in southern California. Pierce College Honors students possess the enviable record of never having been rejected for admission to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Not only that, but Pierce College students also transfer to California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in higher numbers than for any other college.
Pierce College prepares its students for academic success following their transfer to a university. A study by UCLA, revealed that Pierce College students graduated from UCLA with a much higher GPA than students coming from any other transfer college.
Being located on 427 acres in the western San Fernando Valley, close to the thriving business district of Warner Center, Pierce College combines learning and state-of-the-art technology with the picturesque beauty of its lush rolling hills. The campus is unique in the Los Angeles metropolitan area being set among approximately 2,200 trees, many thousands of beautiful rose bushes, a nature preserve and a forest area populated with giant redwoods amongst other trees.
